Hello there! It’s been a minute! 2,224,064 of them, to be exact. That’s how long ago I announced that Empty Your Cup would become a book. So where is it? Well, let’s start from the beginning…
Hi! My name is Nik. I’m a writer. Perhaps you remember me from places like Medium, Quora, Four Minute Books, or this very project, Empty Your Cup. What was that again? A daily newsletter, written in the spirit of Bruce Lee, to help us live a balanced life.
Every day of the week, we had a different theme:
Since today is Wednesday, I hope you’ll forgive me, but after much work behind the scenes, the book is…still not ready. I apologize. In the last 4 years, a lot has happened — including 2 other books — but it is only now that I’m really coming back to Empty Your Cup — and this time, I’m buckling down and finishing it. It’s about 30% done, but there’s a ways to go for sure.
The Empty Your Cup book will be released in 2024. No hedging. No backup plans. This is happening.
As everything in life, however, I can’t do it alone, and right now, as I’m trying to make the overall theme and goal of the book airtight, I really need your help with two questions:
1. Why did you sign up for the Empty Your Cup newsletter back in 2019?
I know it’s been a while, but if you remember what drew you to the project back in the day (or even if you signed up later), I’d be grateful if you could share it with me.
2. What do you hope to gain from the Empty Your Cup book?
The theme of the newsletter was balance. How do you unite being ambitious with being kind? How can you excel in what you do but still enjoy life along the way? Those were some of the original questions — and emptying our cup, dropping our preconceived notions, and keeping an open mind was a large part of the answer.
But what else do you associate with the word “balance?” What does “balance,” the way we approached it on Empty Your Cup, mean to you? And what’s the pressing challenge you think it could solve in your life?
If you have a minute, I’d love for you to share your definition and expectations with me. They’ll help a ton in getting the book to the next stage.
Hit reply, share your thoughts, and let’s make this book a wonderful, inspiring, calming force in our lives — together.
Oh, and if you need a reminder of what each post and theme looked and felt like, I made an Imgur album to upload some of the classics. Hit the button below, and you’ll see a small selection of what each daily theme is like.
Thank you for your support of the project and in general over the years, and I can’t wait to bring this book to life!
-Nik
Hi Nik. I signed for you were different from all the rest, the writing was closer to me (maybe because I am Portuguese, European, I do not know). You looked eager to experiment and share (and you did).
Also I liked a lot "be like water my friend" quote from Bruce Lee so your message resonated with me, I guess.
I like this model were a current and future reader participates.
Nowadays I see a shimmer of hope that in a wow Ai world you can come up with human meaningful steady advice.
As for why the book, or what it solves regarding balance. The search for balance is a decent worth it goal per si that benefits everyone without exception.
I liked the rythm and just about right depth and length of what you published back then. Not too short and still thought provoking.
Hope it helps. I am the one who offered to draw for you years ago, eager to help you in other publishing endeavor.
@rumagoso. Back then I learnt eagerness to contribute does not equate to value for others :)
So let's see what you will bring into the light next 2024.
It was a random signing at the time. I liked what I read and decided to follow through but it was the daily dose of relatable content backed up with wisdom and an interesting storytelling that kept me following.
